Sports fans should not miss the basketball games of the Latvian national team!

12th August Latvia – Dominican Republic. On the way to the World Cup

A unique opportunity to compete with representatives of the American basketball school. Since 1992, the Latvian men's national team has played only one game with the teams of the FIBA America zone - in the Olympic qualification tournament in Belgrade in 2016, the Latvians lost to the Puerto Rican team in the semi-finals with 70:77. The fight against the Dominican team will be a very useful experience to understand the mentality and playing style of players that you don't often meet every day. The Dominican national team (23rd place in the FIBA ranking table) will compete in the finals of the World Cup for the fourth time. In 2014 and 2019, the team entered the Top16. The Dominicans have already written their name in the history of the 2023 World Cup, by snatching the ticket from the hands of the first champions and 2019 vice-champions, the basketball players of Argentina, in the last match of the qualification.

16th August Latvia – Finland, supports ‘’Citadele’’

The day after the match, the Latvian team will leave for the Far East in order to acclimatize in time at the venue of the World Cup. The game with the Finnish national team (24th place in the FIBA ranking table) will be the last test of readiness and a unique duel of NBA center players: Kristaps Porzingis against Lauri Markanen. In the visiting team, we will also see Aleksandar Madsen, who played several seasons for "VEF Riga", the Finnish team will participate in the finals of the World Cup for the second time after 2014. The national teams of Latvia and Finland have played each other 13 times since 1992. The Latvians had the advantage - 10 victories, but the last matches were unsuccessful. In 2018, the Latvian team lost both away (73:80) and in Riga (84:86) in test matches.

12th August Imants Kalnins music concert "Between Machines, Motors, Girls" in Liepaja

"Between machines, motors, girls" is a music concert by Imants Kalnins with solists Kristine Paze, Olga Rajecka and Mikelis Putnins. In 2021, the composer Imants Kalnins turned 80 years old, and in honor of this event, a new concert program was created with the composer's best-known and listeners' favorite songs, arranged by the group "Ezeri" in cooperation with the musicians Rudolfs Macats and Kristine Paze. Kristine Paze, Olga Rajecka and Mikelis Putnins will perform as solists at the concert. The concert will feature songs such as "Apturi mani ", "Es šodien jūku prātā", "Bimini", "Svētku diena", "Sitiet bungas" and others from Imka's excellent repertoire. The concert program was created under the auspices of Von Strick's villa.

16th August SHIPSEA at fon Stricka villa garden

On the evening of August 16, we invite you to go on an emotional adventure and experience together with SHIPSEA at the "Apgaismo mani" concert. At the concert, SHIPSEA and the accompanying band will play the songs of the album, which received the "Golden Microphone" as "Best Record of the Year", "Apgaismo mani" - "Pie upes", "Tavi viļņi", "Siltā gaismā", as well as the best-known compositions created previously - "Taviem ceļiem", "Citu vārdu", "Mežaparks". And of course, the repertoire of Imants Kalnins will not be missed. 18th August NIKTO at Kanepes Culture centre

Nikto is a band from Riga that plays guitar music, which the members themselves call "post-rock in the broadest sense of the word", with lyrics in Russian. The debut album released in 2019 was well received by music reviewers, nominated for the "Austra award 2019" and the Latvian music recording annual award "Zelta mikrofons 2020" in the nomination "Debut". At the moment, the band is performing with the material of the upcoming album, which has melodiousness and elements of classic psychedelia. This will be one of the last opportunities to hear the band in Riga this year, as one of the members is going abroad soon.

20th August ŽIDRŪNS at Kanepes Culture centre

16th August Play "River" at the Dramaturgu Theater

The main character of the play, Amnis, whose real name no one (including himself) knows, has lost his memory under unknown circumstances. Lost, Amnis lives in a hut by the river and believes that the river will help him regain himself. Strangers swarm around, each with their own desires and problems. In the end, everyone experiences the fact that the seemingly random intertwining of different people's life paths can change a lot for everyone. The main theme of the play is communication, understanding between people, the ability to resolve conflicts, including internal ones. At the same time, events are unfolding and passions are also stirring in the depths of the river... The subtitle of the play is "A fairy tale for adults". Almost every character in the play finds out at the end that life can sometimes happen "like in a fairy tale". Are the events in this world connected by invisible webs driven by one's own actions, a chain reaction, or maybe some unknown force is involved - the answers to these questions should be sought by each viewer in their own experience.

A woman writes a book in the Middle Ages. The events she holds to be figments of her imagination are memories of a past life. Today, the book is found by a woman who was the same writer in her previous life. A story about how a person is affected by past lives and how clinical death can change us and help us love life and accept ourselves and other people with all their quirks. Reflections, fantasy, interpretation of historical events and the rebirth of a woman's inner strength as an opportunity to return to herself, to take off the clothing imposed by other people as an inappropriate piece of clothing and learn to hear the sound of her soul again. Then open up to the movement of life and the flow of time until the experienced experience merges in a common harmonious dance with the present moment.
